Hello there.
Weirdly enough, I wound up with a job doing freelance writing here in Brighton. It's going pretty well so I am sticking with it for now, but I've not ruled out the possibility of going for that CELTA. I just thought I would drop by and see how everybody is so, um, how everybody is?

Geez, Rob, don't sneak up on us like that!
Well, a glance through the posts will tell you that we're about the same as always, thanks for asking. There are a few new faces here and some regulars are MIA--they're probably on vacation but I'm sure they'll soon drift back into our big, happy, dysfunctional family.
Congratulations on the freelance gig--good for paying bills and adding to the resume.
So...how are you? |

I'm good. Apart from dying in this Hellish heat. I mean, it may not be hot by the standards of say, Hawaii, but for round here, it's HOT. I just moved into a new flat which means that I am working with the computer on the floor (desk yes, chair no) so I spend my days sat in a sweaty huddle. But it pays and I'm near the beach.
Did I miss anything exciting? |

I'm alive.
Just piecing together part time work and waiting for the new term to begin.
Oh, I'll have a brief holiday next week. It'll be a welcome change of scenery for a bit - as I have stayed put for half a year. |

I guess, freelance writing is a kind of permanent vacation (or "holiday") that pays, in your case, pays very well, congrats!
But you should invest a little into an aircon.
Those hellish temperatures they are currently experiencing in Europe - up to 40 degrees in France, Germany, and 26 at night, exactly as we have in some parts of China too - may be a thing to reckon with in the next year(s).
Otherwise, a cool job can be had in China too.
I had to flee from the heat in Guangdong, the mosquitoes that come with it, and the boredom of workless days. I am now in northern Yunnan, in an area where the climate is just alright - well below 30, no aircon needed, coffee is molto bene (local produce), food is international, and prices are low, partly owing to the absence here of crowds of westerners (but partly offset by crowds of Chinese). |

Hi Rob! I was really glad to see you got a 'promotion' to the China Off-Topic forum and I hope you'll swing by and say hi from time to time. Glad you're happy and well.
Cheers,

It was pretty hot in the dance tents at Brighton Pride on Saturday and I'm working west of you along the coast. 18 bodies in smallish classrooms and no air-con.! I'd stick to the writing at home, if I were you.
It's not copy for holiday brochures is it - that would be real torture..

No, content for interactive TV and that sort of thing. Where are you teaching SueH? Tell me it isn't Southampton, for your own sanity!
Capergirl - are you still plannign the big move?
Fortunately it is cooling down here now. I can move around freely again!

Rob,
I don't live or work in Southampton... my sin is having a season ticket and watching the Saints ...

Things are very much up in the air right now. I'm busy with a new group of students at the moment, but I'm hoping to make a move next spring (not sure on the destination yet). |
