Anyone else interested in it? I have to say I am utterly disappointed in the coverage here. In fact, I went out and bought a skyperfect satellite last week and still.... virtually nothing.
It seems BS1 and BS3 are the only places to see anything or maybe NHK will do more.
I'd kill to see some hockey, but since Japan doesn't have a team, I guess that might be a pipe dream. Maybe I will have to hang out at Yamada Denki and watch the Olympics there. |

It's been on every night for most of the night here in Chiba. I doubt there will be any hockey. |

Acutally there will be lots of hockey, most of it shown in the afternoon and evening with a few games in the wee hours of the morning. Hockey coverage starts on the 16th for men. The women's has alread started. For Canadians here's the men's hockey that you can see on BS 1 :
16th, 12:10 - Canada vs. Italy
19th, 14:05 Canada vs. Switzerland
20th, 20:05, Canada vs. Finland
21st, 03:00, Canada Vs. Czech or at 12:15 a.m. on NHK general (repeated the next day at a more reasonable 12:10pm)
23rd 12:10 - Semifinal #1
24th 21:00 - Semifinal #2
25th 11:40 - Bronze medal game
26th 21:55 - Final
The women's hockey final is the 21st at 14:05
So that's quite a bit and judging for the listings provided in the Japanese newspaper they should be showing almost the full game as they are allowing 2 hours for the broadcast with nothing listed except for the hockey.
Go Canada! |

Thanks guys and gals.
Johanne, thanks for the preview, but you need a sateliite dish however, a different one from what I have. I noticed only one game on NHK. |

I never was much of a fan of the Olympics, and Japanese coverage is appalling.
They usually show only the Japanese athletes, even when they don't win. Or is that ESPECIALLY when they don't win?
Last night had a blurb about Michele Kwan opting out of the games. A ONE LINE news report on that, followed by 10 minutes of stupid snowboard reports. |

What do you expect from the Japanese? However, you should see the American coverage in the States.
On the hockey note: 26th 21:55 - Final Canada vs. ? We'll see... |

Gotta agree with you here. The US only shows their athletes too, but you get to see a lot more because they have many more athletes making the finals or actually winning. |

If you get the Daily Yomiuri, it posts all the events and what time and what channels they are on. |

Does anyone want to volunteer to put up the olympics schedule if they get the Daily Yomiuri?
I'm sure people would appreciate it.
I'm taping the figure skating tonight (Valentine's gift for my wife). I think (hope) it starts at 3:30am. |

Hi Gordon,
I get the DY and I will try to post something for you.
Was watching the women's half-pipe last night but found it to be pretty weak. Maybe it's just me, but I expected the riders to be really ripping.
The only broadcasts I have watched so far were televised on regular Japanese TV. Saturday morning I saw the women's moguls and men's half-pipe. Would have to say that my favorite event is men's moguls.
We also have CS TV. What channels did you subscribe to?
Enjoy,

Thanks for the link, moot.
Sweetsee, I get the 66 channel special from skyperfect. I'd say most are junk. What is CS TV?
Yeah, the women's halfpipe seemed pretty lame, 3-4 good ones out of the bunch. Where were the Canadians? I figured we could have had contenders any day of the week on Whistler to compete and get a medal. Maybe it was the drug testing, we do have a bit of a reputation there. |

Hi Gordon,
I tuned in for about 2 minutes last night and the riders I saw seemed like beginners, sort of disappointing. Maybe the stoners rule and they all stayed home. Also, they all seemed to be tuning in their i-pods at the gate, maybe they have the wrong jams happening or maybe they need that edge that only cannabis provides.
I believe CS is the format you and I have, as opposed to BS. But you could also say that CS is BS. Anyway, we get Movie Plus(ch 312), Cinefil Imagica(260), History Channel(370) and Discovery Channel(321).
Funny because during Nagano I did a word association game with my class and when I presented the word "snowboard", a bunch of students shouted out "doragu!" But I seem to remember the competition being much more exciting last time.
Enjoy,

Personally I thought the women snowboarders were amazing. I can remember a time not to long ago when the women's half-pipe competition consisted of doing a 180 board grab and trying the get as much height as possible. Now quite a few of them are doing 900's and invert Mctwists!
I think this is probably the first generation (most of them don't look older than 18 ) of girls who have been snowboarding basically their entire lives. They're finally starting to catch up to men. |
