Most legal teaching work in Taiwan requires a one year contract.

The exception to this would be the conditional working holiday programe that Taiwan has. There are conditions on country of origin and age so I suggest that you check into this.

Lots of teachers leave during summer, either for holiday or permanently. Therefore lots of schools have work available. It will all be illegal, however, unless you have a degree and sign a contract.

Check out American Language Village. They run summer camps throughout the country. No ARC but everything works out OK.

I worked for them in January at a couple of winter camps and had no problems. In fact, they took really good care of the teachers. Don't bring any teaching materials with you as they provide you with everything. Hope you like to do lots of singing, dancing, games, etc. since that is what they like. Very little "teaching" in the normal sense of the word.

Good luck.

Clark, don't forget that people married to Taiwanese could also work legally in Taiwan just for the summer.

As DirtGuy stated there is ALV camp which seems not to get you in trouble but it is illegal. As I have previously stated, they even use illegal workers in government schools. Humm, I don't think they are hiding anything from the Taiwanese government. You got to wonder about a country that employs illegal teachers in their own state schools. I might be wrong but I think a few of the summer camps are at state schools and not private schools.
