The question has been asked a few times.... When is the best time to come to Costa Rica?
My answer is., Anytime! Language schools, agencies and universities all run on different time tables. There is no beginningof the school year, similar to the U.S. and Canada. Most of the universities run on an 8 week bimester and this means that potentially every 8 weeks there could be a job for you.

My university (Ulatina, in San Pedro) runs on this schedule but has one week off every 8 weeks so this puts them into a different time table than the other universities.

Teachers may not be as transient when they have good paying university positions, (Ulatina is one of the top) however this doesnt mean that they dont come available on a regular basis.

Right now Ulatina is looking to replace 3 teachers that are leaving in March. Usually a B.A., + a TEFL + experience is needed for universities but if you are here in Costa Rica and looking and dont have all that, dont shy away. Send your resume and set up an appointment for an interview.

Good luck and cheers

Doreen,

What do you think about coming to Costa Rica with a BA in English, some teaching experience, and a TEFL cert. from one of those online courses?

I have tried asking before, got no answer...

Yes ! come on down! its not always the certificates and degrees that get you the jobs. I think its safe to say that there could be some wonderful teachers with no degrees and some awful teachers with tons of degrees.

A good DOS (interviewer) should be able to pick out the dynamic personalities and weed through the bad.

Being here physically in Costa Rica is the first major step. From there you will get many interviews and its up to you to sell yourself.

good luck
cheers
