Hi- if anyone knows of an opening in a reputable school somewhere in Guangdong, please feel free to PM me. I am not TEFL certified, but I have a BA, experience, and solid references. That is, I have solid references, except for the boss-from-hell I am currently looking to get away from.

Thank you,

Foreign Devil.

I'm afraid that might have sounded a bit too negative...I meant to say that I don't know if I would get a good reference from my boss, because we have had a contract dispute (specifically, she wants to break the contract!). The other teachers I work with would give me a good reference, however.

Just a thought:

Just mention you have "refrences available upon request." If you get asked for references (which I wasn't with both the jobs I was offered) then show them the good ones. BTW I know that in Japan a co worker - espeically a senior co - worker (senoir in years) often serve as references.

I have a letter of reference from a company where I worked the longest (2 years) but as they no longer exist, there's no way to back it up. My first letter of refrence was written by an EFL company so large and with a turn over rate so high that it's likely no one there would remember me.

Besides, if you're alive, appear to speak English and are willing to teach then there are tons of people who'd employ you illegally (NOT recommended) to say nothing of not asking for letters of reference.

I'm on the way out of a company job in Dongguan (see 'company vs school' thread for details). I like it, but I'm leaving.

PM me for details if you want better money and conditions than a school can offer, and I'll give you the details.

Thanks for the responses guys...Bluey, I PMd you and am looking forward to hearing back from you.

This whole thing has me really bummed out. It's not that I'm some kind of Robin Williams-Dead Poet Society-kind of English teacher, but I am dedicated to my job, and I do care about my students. I sure as heck didn't get into this for the money...so having to argue about money like I am currently doing with my boss...MAN DOES THIS SUCK!!!

And by the way...I am not sure what the polite way of doing this is, but I surely would want to warn any prospective hirees away from this boss. If you are talking with a school in southern Guangdong maybe you want to PM me and ask for details?
