To the OP,
You didn't mention if you were working for a training center or a public/private school. Do you teach the same age/level students in the extra classes? I still don't agree with renting a teacher out to make sure the contract hours are fulfilled, if your school doesn't have enough classes to make your 20 hours then that isn't fault. My contract states that I am to teach 25 classes a week but occasionally I teach less, I wouldn't allow my school to rent me out to another institution to make up those hours. |

| But regarding the GuangZhou situation, there is just a plethora of jobs and opportunities in and around GuangZhou, so I am confused as to why anyone in that city with those opportunities would even put up with conditions like you describe.. |
The teachers were offered, over the telephone, a salary of 10000RMB!! With bonus possibilities...
After arriving in GZ one was explained that "You look so young" and the other "you have so little experience" booth got their salary lowered to 8000...
The Chinese-Canadian had the balls to asked them: "how does that sound to you?"
Another teacher was offered a 7000 salary, 2 hours away from GZ... by train??? In a small town, and he had to stay there...

Actually there never knew if they worked for Aipusen or ETI.
I think that a few of them are gone to other countries(?)

I think your current school is perfectly within their rights to sub-contract your services... |
Sorry to read this one. You have no idea about what you are writing. The PSB is crystal clear...
- You must work, and work only, for the school's name printed on your contract.
- You cannot work without a contract.
- You must only work for the school/business that applied for your visa.
Most of us do side jobs like for TV-radio stations, advertising, commercial, bars, private tutoring or weekends in private teaching centers.
That is illegal too, as your visa allows you to work exclusively for whom ever applied for it...
caution "R" is on his way.............

They'll have that one worked out. You still work for the school (you are paid by the school) they'll have a contract with the other school to the effect that they (your school) will supply a teacher who will remain in their employ. But provide serices for the second school.
Or possibly a contract whereby your (The 1st) school buys the 2nd schools students for those periods, or something similar. Lots of clever, perfectly legal ways of getting around that. As long as you are working on behalf of your school and getting paid by them it's pretty clear that you are working for them. Doing what (subcontracted to other schools for example) is neither here nor their within reason.
It'll all be in the contract the 1st and 2nd schools have between them.
If a school doesn't have the students to utilize you, and they're still paying your, salary I can understand how they would want to maximise your usefulness to them. (as an earner) |

Why not working for the PSB Mytime, and teach them what you know. |

I'm sure they already do, which is why this practice is so common. |

Considering that they are most likely making much money off you then I would ask for more money that is closer to the going rate.
200rmb a month is not a serious paymeny for this extra work at all.
Do not think you are being greedy by requesting more money. You should really additionally request the taxi fare for the round trip in addition.
Your time = your money |

As I understand it, this is not extra work (I.E. over his contracted hours) and the 10-15 minute commute barely registers. How long was your commute to work in your home country? |

Hey, thank you for all your opinions.
After a bit of soul searching I decided to just do the extra work. As I mentioned in my original post, my school has been very good to me and I dont think its worth making a fuss over an extra 4 periods regardless of their location. Oh, by the way, I work at the experimental (private) branch of a public school.
Anyway, thanks again. I think I made the right decision. Thanks for all your help and advice. |
