hi,
im planning on coming to japan for a job hunting trip in a few months. how do you like the climate where you are? polution level? both are important to me as far as quality of life. i prefer temperate.
thinking of sappora, but wondered about a beach area so the hot summers have a little breeze to them.

I've been in Sapporo for almost 8 years. Summers are pleasant, never hot and muggy. It's the winters that get most people down. Be prepared for 6 meters of snowfall and an average temperature of -3 degrees C for 5 months. As for a beach, there are a couple within an hour or more away.

Me? I like it here. It's balmy to me.

I live in Kyoto and like it, besides the incredibly humid summers and fairly cold winters. (I'm awuss when it comes to cold though, having grown up in Texas and all.) It's crowded downtown with slow-moving buses and cabs, so the pollution might bug you. Lots to do in Kansai, though. Kobe might suit you better, being close to beaches and all. Or maybe Wakayama if you like the countryside?

Tokyo polluted, beaches are only good for tanning (or hard core surfing, but no surf)

for 3 seasons the weather is mild, but summers are hot and muggy (think Florida, say Tampa)
