Well, I've been teaching in Beijing for the last year, and I've been thinking more and more about teaching in Japan. I'd really like to teach in Kyoto, but anywhere in Japan is fine.

Would I have to be back in my home country (Canada), or in Japan to apply for a job or would they hire me out of Beijing?

I was also wondering where a good place to post my resume on the internet would be? I've posted it on eslcafe before, but it seems like this is a better place to find jobs in Korea and China than in Japan.

I have one year's teaching experience in a university in China a bachelors degree and a TESL certificate. Would I have a hard time landing a job in Japan (or Kyoto)?

A bachelor's degree will make you eligible for entry level work here, which means JET Programme or conversation schools (eikaiwas). Your experience in China will probably not count for much, if anything.

Nobody in Japan recruits for teachers in China, so you either have to find the employers who recruit from overseas and interview in native-English speaking countries (only about a dozen employers), or you get lucky to find a reputable employer who does a phone interview (not exactly a fair thing for either party), or you spend a month or two living here while looking for work. Just make sure you come at the right time and are prepared to support yourself.
