pnksweater: they did the height/weight for (male) skiiers as well. Not sure what it adds, but it's probably the on-screen equivalent of baseball cards. Human interest, I guess. |

For Japan, the Torino Olympics will be remembered as the "crying games".
What is up with that? |

But men...and so far from contention?
Doesn't it fly in the face of all the business about stoicism? |

I just find it funny that Britain has more medal(s) than Japan. And we don`t even have winter.

Even Australia has a medal and a gold at that. Mind you, he was a Cdn for most of his life. |

well until someone wins a medal, the Japanese athletes will be crying.
So far, they haven`t lived up to the hype.
But I think anybody who makes it to the Olympics is a champion, whether they win or not.
I want to see hockey too, but I only saw Canada play Switzerland. |

The Canada-Czech game was on last night, the first live game I've seen in 4 years. Don't know if they will show another Canada game. If they don't start playing better, tonight will be Canada's last. |

Canada lost to the Russians. No medal possibilities. Disgusting display of hockey for the Canadian men. Good luck to the curlers. |

Thank goodness we have some good speed skaters. Klassen is amazing, no wonder she was our female athlete of the year last year. 4 medals, in every colour, this Olympics.
What went wrong with the Cdn men's hockey team? 2 goals in their last 4 games. That's ugly. |

Same problem as always. Everyone thinks they're a prima dona NHL superstar. They know how to interact with their own team due to repeated exposure but they don't know how to be part of a national team. Until that happens they don't really deserve to (nor can they expect to) win.
But as long as the Russians don't win gold I'll be happy. |

That's not even close to being true. Canada knows how to be a team and all these guys were going after the same thing. To say they were a bunch of prima donnas is totally inaccurate. It's never been that way for Canadian players playing together. Not knowing how to be part of a national team? All the players have probably represented Canada in some form during their lives, as most elite players do.
The problem was age, bad luck and they hit a funk. It wasn't because of hidden agendas, egos or anything like that. They played poorly. They played too many games (8 games in 12 days) and that probably took too much out of them. Couple that with a goal scoring funk, some bad breaks basically equals they got outplayed by Russia and it's over. |

I recall reading about the Canadian team in December, and they were saying how it was more defence minded than offence.
I was worried that they didn't have enough scoring punch, and that may have been the case. One or two goals shouldn't beat you, but it did. |

Hindsight is 20/20. My doubts going into the games was that they did not have enough youth. I know missing Mario and Yzerman, they lacked leadership. Crosby should not have been left off the team. Sure his time will come, but he could have got a lot of experience from this and who knows what would have happened. Look at Ovechkin, he was the one who knocked Canada out. Bure was not afraid of choosing him. |
