I have found a company to sponsor me for my one year work visa.
I think the company may do shady things.

Once the paper work has been processed and my passport has been stamped with a one year visa, can I leave the company the next day and still retain my visa?

Interesting. Leaving the company the next day isn't a 'shady' thing for you to do at all.

What kind of shady things does this comapany do? Why would you take a job with a company which you don't trust?

I assume that you are not going to literally "leave the company the next day". But, if you do leave the company without finishing your contract, your visa will probably not be in jeapordy.

Why would you want to quit your job right away? You don't need money? You have another job which won't sponsor your visa?

What's up here?

I'm getting sick and tired of reading posts on this site of foreigners looking to take advantage of the ESL system.

There have been numerous threads like this one recently.

There has to be an element of good old fashioned 'trust' on behalf of the employee when it comes to signing a contract.

I'm all for trying to better your own position but surely a contract is a contract.

If you have no intention of honouring a contract then why sign it in the first place ?

It's easy to criticize others without knowing the facts.
That's the western way.

The older I get, the more I realize
that strong judgments of others
is really just a reflection of myself.

If we all take care of our own house,
maybe we won't have so many issues with others.

Or meet a nice girl and fall in love.
Maybe these issues won't mean too much.

May the force be with you.....

It's best not to get involved with a shady school at all. However by doing a runner after one day, YOU would be the shady one!

You want to take a job, then bail out just because you found out the company is shady, is that right? What makes you think it's shady?

Bottom line, you can get the visa and switch companies right away and keep your visa, but think how it will look -- to your employer (who may not be shady, but who will continue to propogate the image that many foreigners are untrustworthy deadbeats who can't honor a contract), and to the next employer (who will wonder if you will bail out on him just as easily).

Don't know who your proposed employer is, but if it is one of the Big Four, be careful. Some of the other Big Four refuse to hire people if they have not completed a 1-year contract from another of the Big Four.
