Time to get rid of the winter flab, and get on me bike. Cycling around Odaiba sounds nice, but I'd imagine Rainbow Bridge is out of the question.. any ideas?

You might be able to ride across on the pedestrian path, though I doubt it. Getting there from the east is easier. Otherwise it's pretty complicated to get there from the western direction. I can't remember exactly how I did it (riding on a scooter) but I think you have to go all the way around the bay, crossing the bridge from Tsukiji over to Tsukishima. However if you try turning right too soon from there, you might hit a dead end as there are many fenced off areas and no-through roads around there... so you'll need to plan it out on a road map first (try to find a place called "Ariake" and go from there on the main road). Basically it's really annoying to get there that way, probably not much a cycling route (lots of traffic and pollution) and way easier just to drive a car across the rainbow bridge or take the monorail...

BTW if you use a scooter be careful trying to come back to western Tokyo from Odaiba -- I once accidently made a blind turn onto the busy one way street that leads up the rainbow bridge and it was impossible to turn around... so I actually had to drive my 50cc scooter all the way across. That sucks... though I never got pulled over or anything (I was surprised there was no ticket booth or anything). Being on a bicycle would be easier to turn around etc. but you still have the problem of finding the right roads to take...

Thanks for that Cshannon - would have thought it would be easier than that. I also heard of taking a boat over, but bit of a last resort.

By the way.. seeing as my bike "disappeared" last week, do you know of any good second-hand bicycle shops in Tokyo?

I found it a pain to get there, but then again I only did it a couple times. Perhaps once you've got the route down though, it might become easier. I think Odaiba itself would be a good place to ride around, it's just getting there that's the hassle. If you had a car you could just drive your bike over and ride around like that. Otherwise I am not sure what you can do... It may even be possible (though difficult I bet) to just directly ride your bike over the rainbow bridge, but I am really not sure if it's allowed (I was on a scooter, which is definately not allowed). I'd look into it before attempting the other long way I gave you.
