I'm applying online for a job as a teacher trainer in Mexico. Though I've been an ESL/EFL teacher for many years, I've never been a teacher trainer. In order to fill out the application and not come across as a dunce, I need to do a little homework. I'd be grateful for any suggestions as to websites I could consult that deal with the jargon and basic principles of teacher training. |

Maybe we could study together- I'm also going through the teacher trainer application process. And it's a handful.

Try searching for "teaching methodology" and PPP and ESA.
Those should give you a start anyway. |

|

Hi,
I'm a teacher trainer (CELTA). Here are some ideas for publications to look at ...
The Teacher Trainer: more a magazine than an academic publication, but it sometimes carries useful articles on ELT training. The website doesn't seem very useful (do you have to subscribe to get into it?)
EL Gazette: a general ELT paper you're bound to have seen, but there are sometimes interesting things in there re training.
ELT Journal: Much more slanted towards academic / research, but some useful articles have appeared on training issues.
The International House magazine (not sure if you can get it outside the IH world) - lots of good stuff, mostly on CELTA training / general teaching things.
IATEFL has a teacher training SIG (special interest group). Website here: www.dudeney.com/iatefl/ttedsig
(TESOL may have something similar)
Other than that, you could contact Cambridge ESOL and/or Trinity College London, as both have 'training up' schemes for new trainers - those handbooks might give you some general guidelines as to what's expected of trainers / what the training process might involve.
Good luck! |

How are you doing these internet searches? If you use google's scholar site, then you can find a tonne of information (but of course, it's all in the form of scholarly articles).
Just click the 'more' tab above the search window in google and go to scholar. |
