I am a newly certified esl teacher and I am looking for work in Mexico. I was wondering if anyone had any information about what the market is like for teaching English in Ensenada, Tijuana and Mexicali?? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

the english market is tough in those cities. Here in TJ I have had to go to doing mostly private lessons on my own for cash as the schools prefer to hire non native speakers who will work for less.Good luck and let me know how things go.I think the others on this forum hate those of us who want to work the frontera area.Let's stick together.

Wow Eric, that's a shame you feel that way. I for one don't hate anybody, on this board or not.
Have a good day,
Lozwich. |

I'm with lozwich on this one. Where did you get the idea that people on this forum hate those who want to work the frontera area? Everyone pretty much has his/her own preferences for locations. Mine is Merida, but I certainly don't hate those who prefer other parts of the country. By the same token, I have absolutely no desire to live and work in Mexico City, but I certainly don't hate those who like it there. |

Thanks for the positve vote on chilangos Ben, but I think a lot of people don't like DF. Too big, too scary, too bad for them cause I love it.
I've never been to the frontera but certainly would like to visit one day. It has a recent reputation for violence, but that's probably overplayed. Right, gordogringo? |

It is a rather puzzling remark. I can't recall anyone making such a comment here, but perhaps I'm wrong... |

The only people I hate are people who hate people who work in the frontera.
Oh and I forgot, I really hate people who hate papaya. I can't stand those types. |

I also want to clairify that I certainly don't hate anyone for wanting to work near the northern boarder of Mexico. (There are so many other reasons to hate people, like costa, I hate people who hate papaya, how can you hate papaya? )
But I usually don't respond to people asking questions about the north of Mexico, because, get this, I don't know anything about the north of Mexico. In fact I usually don't even read messages with subjects like this one, just the fact that lots of people suddenly replied to it today caught my attention, otherwise I wouldn't have looked at it, because I there's nothing I can contribute to it.
I guess all this is also, no useful contribution. But this isn't the first time that silence has been mistaken for hostility on this forum. Usually silence just means no one has anything to say... |

What if you physically can't eat it because it sets off weird chemical reactions in your already dodgy digestive system? Please don't hate me. I don't hate papaya. Papaya hates me. |

I've been told that papaya has compounds very much like HCL, which is similar to stomach acid, which is what makes it good for you, but also why some people say it tastes like vomit (to them).
But isn't this a thread about work in the boarder cities? |

Gosh. I can't say that I hate papaya, but I sure get tired of the way it's served up constantly. I guess you could say I'm just plain bored of papaya.
Are you bored of people who are bored of papaya? |

I think this is the first time in Mexico that I've ever met anyone who's gotten bored of papaya. But don't worry it's MANGO season! So just switch over. Right now they're about 20-25 a kilo. In a couple of months they'll be down to about 5 a kilo. And when yoou've stuffed yourself silly with mangoes you can switch back to papaya.
Life here in the tropics is a never endng cycle of fruit bliss, I tell ya.
And what about passion fruit (maracuya)? I have a vine in my garden that is giving so much fruit that I must admit I'm getting a bit bored of the agua I've been making for thelast month. I can't come home from work and not step in the ones that have dropped all over the patio.
Hmm, it appears that talking about fruit is a tad more interesting than talking about teaching English in the border zone... |

You know, one of the best things about Mexico is fresh pineapple. You know, pineapple that wasn't picked green and hasn't sat in the back of a truck for two weeks.
Mmm, fresh pineapple... |

At the risk of losing LS to Ecuador, I'm going to say this. Once you've eaten the pineapple in Ecuador, the ineapple in Mexico sucks! Okay, I live farther away from pineapple land here than I did there. But the pineapples in Ecuador, while much smaller, were sooooo much tastier. And back then they cost about the equivelent of $0.25 US! And smaller was better, you could finish one off by yourself!
delacosta, could you send some maracuya juice up here? We can't get that around here. We could do a trade, I'll send you pitayas, when they come back into season, and you send maracuyas! |
