Anyone have experience serving as a fellowship holder? I'd like to hear about your experiences. Thanks.

I work in the program now. Very good pay and, for me anyway, not exceptionally demanding work. One reason is that I am pretty much my own boss and the department head of the university where I am posted just wants to keep me happy in hopes that I'll stay an extra year.

You are expected by the embassy, however, to occasionally go out and give presentations at conventions and seminars at other institutions. Not everyone's cup of tea. In addition, it's not much of a career thing. The new educational sponsor, Georgetown U, wants to play strictly by the rules, meaning that you can work for one year--or two if your site is approved for an extra--but that's it. You are not encouraged (allowed?) to try for a different posting following your first. Can't say I really understand the logic behind it all.
