When I first read this I thought it was the other way around. Funny how the brain works.

Turkey. It's close enough to Europe, is Arabic, but, yet.... isn't....
It has mountains, beaches, a rich history, goregous architecture, friendly people and is inexpensive.
I don't know if I will be able to stay for 10 years (or more if the goddess looks favorably upon me) but I am going for at least a year. YAYYAAAAYYYYYAAAAAYY~!~
big ol' wide grin all over my face (the emoticons just don't cut it!!!)
oh, I'll try....

| Well, I obviously would choose Japan since I live here.I love the mountains,sea and the open spaces that are very abundant in rural Japan.You can enjoy the hiking trails on the mountains,the open spaces of the rice fields and the Sea of Japan all in one day.Not to mention the historical sites that abound throughout Japan.I would not leave here nor do I plan to in the near future. |

Hahaha, "Freedom 35" is classic. I think my favourite all-time moment on that show was when Ricky was justifying throwing his trash into the river...he claimed that "nature recycled it" because it was swept away . Either that or Ricky sharing a nicotene patch with his daughter...that scene was so unwholesome, but absolutely hilarious.

The show is filmed in Timberlea, NS (which is just outside Halifax). However, I believe they are moving productions to Toronto in the near future. The show is a satire, but as your friend pointed out, it isn't that greatly exaggerated for those of us who have grown up near trailer parks like the one on the show (and they film the show at a real trailer park), which is why it is such a colossal hit here. We "recognize" the characters. Despite the show's cult-like following, the actors have remained very humble thus far and I know several people who have had drinks with them and have just hung out with them at the local bars (in Halifax). Ricky is my favourite character, by the way.

I guess I must have missed the Ricky show. So much for my being a teacher of Western. |
You're missing a funny show. However, it's not a show for everybody...depends on your sense of humour and how, uh, sensitive you might be. It is very popular among the 20 and 30-something Bluenosers, though. Just about everyone I know watches it. (Hey, it beats reality trash TV )

I don't know if I have just one favourite moment. That show cracks me up. Every time Ricky shoots himself, I am ROTFLMAO. "Who shot you?" "Nevermind who f***ing shot me" |

Greece--although not for TEFL purposes. I'd actually like to spend the entire 10 years just soaking up the sun on an isolated little isle somewhere.

| The Turks seem to define themselves by how they are NOT Arabic... Arabs are lazy, dirty, barbarians according to far too many Turks I know. It's surreal. |

I'm so glad that I don't have to choose because this question is too hard. It's like being asked to pick a food that you will eat for lunch everyday for the next ten years, or to pick an animal that you would want to be. Plus, I have not lived in enough overseas destinations to knowingly contemplate this hypothetical for you.
In my years I have, however, lived in many places in the U.S. allowing me to widdle away at the list of amenities that are important to me when I consider where I might want to settle down for a while. They are: good proximity to friends so I can see a lot of them, temperate (sunny) climate, mountains, oceans, multi-cultured, decent transit system, good restaurants
If I may set one parameter for me to abide by your question then I will gladly answer you forthwith. 1) I need an income to allow for home ownership in a suitable location.
With that said, I choose the surrounding environs of the Oakland Hills in the Bay Area of Northern California. I hope this counts. |

| Yes, Scot47, there is a difference between "arabic" and "muslim" and I was referring to the arabic aspects of Turkey. But, thanks for pointing out the confusion. |

like to be a part of the largest military empires on
the planet, just for a moment anyway.
then...the other 9 years and 363 days i would live
in california, seatle, nyc and new orleans..just
to get some street CRED..
start a rap band, write songs about being
in america and biches and gang stas and tacos.
then give interviews to Larry King Live...if he is still aLIVE.

a kung fu rap artist. Marry someone famous who just
divorced someone famous.
then retire and open a language school which is quality.
DRINK JACK; and tell my teachers/Employees about
my crazy past:::
die:::
rebirth:::

be born in the fourth world:
no shoes; no sandles; but i own a stolen mobile:
drive a stolen motorcycle: and take english at a local

including the owner to get free courses, the teacher to pass me,
the students to loan me money and buy me food.
i learn english and begin following my dream to
go to Canada and be a rapstar...
i die in the boat on the way there. since i didnt pay
