Hi,
does anyone know websites/e-mail addresses of people renting appartments in Bangkok (as close to Siam Square as possible) for less than 4 000 Thai Baht per month?
When you rent an appartment in Thailand, the price does not dpeend on how many people live in the appartment right?
Thanks! |

^ How many people are you planning to bring along?
The 4 websites below should help out with the apartment hunt.
Be aware that Siam Square is not the cheapest part of Bangkok,
and 4,000 Baht per month is on the lower end of the rental scale.
In plain English, you won't get much apartment for that.
A very small, one-room studio - that's about it.
Instead of limiting your search to Siam Square,
why not extend that search to include areas that are
within walking distance of the BTS or MRT lines?
http://www.bts.co.th/en/map.asp (BTS map)
You'll have a lot more options that way, and
getting around is fast & easy if you're
near the BTS / MRT network.

First of all, thank you so much....the first three sites from the ones you wrote, are particulalrly hlepful (the other two are in Thai). Thank you so much, very helpful sites. Well, it's not that I do not intend to stay anywhere apart from Siam Square, that's why I said 'as close as possinle'. I'll be coming alone, it's just that I may not be staying alone during all days and nights. Would suggest I find an appartment before I go there, or do you think one can find better deals while in the city because many apparmtents are not online? In Thailand is it common for owners to ask for a pre-deposit?
Thank you so much!!! |

^ My pleasure.
fyi
All of the 5 websites above are in English;
you just need to click on the British flag,
or look for the word English ...
and click on that.
Yes!
many of the 'standard Thai apartments' are not online,
so chances of finding something in the 4,000 Baht range
are indeed much better after you're on the ground here.
re: guests in your apartment
Most Thai Landlords are pretty cool about overnight guests.
If you don't make lots of noise & you pay the rent on time,
nobody will care, and your privacy will be respected.
re: security deposit
2 month's rent paid in advance is fairly standard practice,
although many places ask for only one and a half,
and there are a few that ask for 3.

| Hey thanks again. And these should be my last questions. Do the owners have the tendency of signing contracts (for renting), so that I'll be sure that I'll actually get the deposit I paid back (when I laeve), or not? Are usually the contracts for 6 months, 1 year, or for as long as I choose? Do we usually pay at the beginning or at the end of the month? |

^ I'd say it varies a little from landlord to landlord.
Most will accept a 6 month contract, although they prefer 1 year.
As for getting your deposit back - most landlords are OK but I've
read stories from people who had some hassles getting it back.
If your bed sheets are clean, the room is in good shape
and you've abided by the terms of the lease ...
you should get your deposit back.
re: rental due date
Most places slip your bill under the door or leave it in your mailbox
on or about the 25th of the month. Due date is usually the 10th.
There are sometimes little perks for paying it before the 5th.
One place offered free membership in their fitness club.
I would have preferred free membership in their beer garden.

For a asport guy like me, free membership to their fitness centre would be just perfect!!! First thing I'll do when I settle down there is to go to public stadium. I've heard it's just 50 Baht for one year or something. If I'm not satisfied with that, then I'll start looking for fitness centres near my place, whever that may be.... If I would say let's say to Phayathai, I could walk to Siam Square (hopefully it's not that far) where I may be working and hopefully there's an easy access to the stadium...I'll see. THANKS!!! |
