|
|
I have accepted a job working in Hiroshima City and fly out this Saturday, I have read numerous threads but am unsure as to what to do at immigration.
My status:
- the school is currently processing my visa with original degree/CELTA etc
- I have a one-way ticket as I am unsure as to my post contract plans and had no idea it was important to be able to show a return stub
Help?
I hope very much that I haven't landed myself in a pickle at such short notice!
Many thanks |

The school doesn't process your visa. Immigration does.
Do you have the Certificate of Eligibility stamped in your passport yet? |

My thoughts exactly, Glenski.
Why are you coming to Japan before your employer has gotten the COE and sent it on to you, pepperpot? Has there been a miscommunication somewhere? I myself wouldn't advise landing in Japan without the work visa already entered in your passport by a Japanese embassy or consulate OUTSIDE JAPAN, and with just a single ticket and possibly limited funds with which to fly yourself back out (assuming you'll be allowed in as a tourist to begin with). Perhaps your employer has said they are going to get the visa sorted out locally after you arrive, if so, that sounds more than a bit fishy to me (why couldn't they send you the COE? And what's the mad rush?).
BTW, if you do get the COE and then the work visa (i.e. a job lined up and waiting), then having only a single ticket won't be a problem - immigration will simply date stamp the visa and let you through. |

Never enter a foreign country on a one-way ticket. Make immigration happy and get a return ticket so they know you're not illegally immigrating. A one year open return ticket is your best bet because, if at any time you have trouble in your first year on the contract, you have an escape.
Don't come over without the certificate and a visa in your passport. The company may have signed a contract with you, but it doesn't mean you're in yet.
Good luck and most importantly, learn the immigration rules so that you can take care of yourself. |
