Shocked Wow, I'm getting a bit hot just reading this thread!! I dunno, though...., fours in jail for groping a woman ---seems a bit, uh, punitive, if you ask me --admittedly a sexist white hetero male. Shocked

I agree. I am usually the most peaceful person ever, but there is this guy who whistles at me every (swear word) day when I am walking home, and sometimes I just want to smack him. It irritates me, but then I remind myself that its the culture and tell myself to forget about it. The most striking thing about this "case" (bearing in mind that the news channel that reported it is particularly crap) is that it is one Colombian charging another, without any foreigners being involved.

Crikey! What IS the world coming to??? Shocked

Dear Poster:

Never bring your grandmom to Mexico! A hot girlfriend is ok, but remember that traveling can take a toll on a relationship.

If this someone you really care about you should stay in a fixed location. You'd be surprised how many things happen out there on the road...let alone a Mexican one. I can't tell you how many hot girlfriends I've lost, never to be found again. If you love them, just don't ever look the other way!

And don't get so bothered by what anyone says on this board, even if they completely misinterpret your original posting and brand you a sexist, they are doing it because they care, and that is a very beautiful thing.

They are fighting the good fight, you know? One bulletin post at a time. And I also feel really bad for domestic abuse victims, too.

Dear Delagoda:

Don't let people tell you you aren't funny. I really liked the posting about mailing your woman as a package. That was funny. Thanks.

Dear Board:

I think more levity is in order.

Okay, just to clairfy. Sadken, I didn't take your original post as sexist, a bit racist yes. Why would a leggy blonde be in more physical danger than a short brunette? It doesn't have to do with the female in question, you're making a statement about the population of Mexico.

Because I have never been to Mexico and I presumed that she would be firmly in the minority there and, as such, quite a novelty and a draw. I see now that I am a terrible racist as a result. Fucking hell, do you actually know what that word means?

Mexico is a country that can be quite, um, challenging to foreigners. Perhaps you should reconsider coming here. I'm quite serious: if these posts get you this riled up, you will not be able to handle travel in Mexico.

this is a weird thread.
i think a lot of guys are pigs, certainly a lot of mexican guys fit that description too. so, i don't think the original post was too far off the mark.
by the way, i am sexist. i tried not to be until i realized that men and women are not the same thing.

i would say, expect for her to get stared at a lot. if she's with you, people probably won't do much more than stare and make comments to each other. even if she weren't with you, it's unlikely anything bad would happen. she would get hit on constantly and possibly groped in places like the subway. sure, those would be bad experiences, but i'm saying that it's unlikely she would be physically threatened.

this is all just my opinion, as i've never been a woman in mexico and never traveled with anyone blond except myself.

now, there's really nothing you can do in advance to prepare for any of this, so you might as well quit thinking about it until the day you're sitting in an airplane.

Sadken, light-skinned ridiculously blonde women are pretty common in some parts of the country, whle in others perhaps not so much. I don't think you've been a bad boy posting here with your concerns, but your gf probably won't find it nearly as threatening as you think.

Dunno why everyone s being hard on you...I understand you're speaking from common misconceptions about Mexico...stuff you'll figure out quick when you arrive. No worries chum.

Matt, have you ever been groped on the metro? Or hissed at?

it's happened twice i think--surprisingly little for the amount of time i spend on the metro. by the way, they were men. Evil or Very Mad

i got hissed at a LOT when i lived in veracruz. a mix of men, women, and middle school girls travelling in packs. have also been asked for sex on the street in veracruz, offered money for sex by strangers who thought i was an escort (i've obviously got some body language issues), and just two days ago a lady who sells chicles started talking to me about her sex life and then invited me to "see rental places" in chalco. as if i'm ever going to rent in chalco! this is all just to say, not that i'm a particularly great-looking person, but that i stand out and it's a different world. i find that people spend MUCH more time on the streets wandering about than in the US, and that's where the action happens. i used to sit in the park and read books because i really missed green space. i quickly learned that it's almost impossible to do that for more than 30 minutes without someone propositioning you.
i now read in my room.

in no case did i ever feel threatend by these people. i'm not sure how i would feel if i were a woman, or how people would have treated me differently, but i think that in most cases it's harmless. repulsive in some cases, but harmless and sometimes amusing.

Wow, Matt, that's more action than I've ever gotten. I think it's that beard. Wink

Leigh, you should be able to grope all you want. Now there would be a piece of video to put on the net, or on the airwaves.

Mad Yankee Woman Gropes 40 on Metro. Film at 11.

I have not been groped (yet), but I have heard stories about being groped on busses. Maybe taking a taxi is a better option. I am new to this board, but it seems common to offend people with questions. Actually, I cannot remember a recent post that didn't offend someone. Sheesh!

In England, does "pinched" mean stolen? If her ass gets stolen in Mexico, you may want to talk them down to a fair price to buy it back.

Laughing Laughing Laughing

At first, I thought I might be offended by that, but after laughing awhile, I think not.
