do eikaiwas or english schools in japan totally refrain from hiring an applicant that is currently under contract even if they desire to hire said qualified applicant sooner than their current contract ends with their company?
my current contract ends in early july but other companies want to hire me sooner, like around march/april. does it depend on the company?
i know i can get out with 30 days notice. but maybe this will signal a red flag and they might worry that i'm a contract breaker. how do you usually get around this problem? and if not, will doing so be a black mark against me? |

If you give the 30 days notice as provided in your existing contract, I would think it proves you are NOT a contract breaker. The people who leave without giving proper notice are contract breakers, not you.
I don't think it will bother your new employers at all, especially if you tell them that you will be giving the proper notice at your current job.
Be aware that some companies like people to leave right away, since often people who give early notice don't put a lot of effort into their remaining days of work. However, in that case they must pay you your full salary anyway.
Good for you, if you give the proper notice. Many teachers just walk when they get offered a new job. We hear a lot of whining on this web-site about school owners not honoring a contract when the so many teachers do the same. |

A question I have about leaving before the contract is the letter of separation the employer is supposed to give you if you want to extend your visa with the new employer. Do you employers not give you it if you don't finish the contract, even if you give the 3 month notice?
I'm not sure what I'm talking about, so another way to ask the question is: If you changing jobs and you have less then one year on your visa, how do you get it renewed or changed to a different type by your new employer? |

You are talking about the letter of release given to you by an employer if you want to change sponsors. You have two choices.
1. Give notice and quit your job. Stay on the same visa with the same sponsor, but working for a new employer. renew visa with new employer as sponsor when visa expires. no letter of release needed. Immigration will ask for documentation to process new visa with a new sponsor.
2. Quit your job but you want to change visa sponsor as well as job to new employer. You need a letter of release to release old employer to change sponsor to new one. By law the employer must give you a letter of release if you ask for it. he cannot withhold or refuse to give it to you. |

thanks. What if you need to change a visa type, like "instructor" to Specialities in Humanities? Do perspective employers hate that? What do you do? |

Why do you want to change visa status? My understanding is that language teachers can only get one kind e.g. humanities visa and JETs get Instructor visa.
What possible benefit can be gained from that. You have a valid visa. Stick with that until it expires and dont make unnecessary work for yourself or immigration unless they make you change your visa status.
If you have to change go to immigration and ask for a change of status form and show them your passport. |
