Hello, I am traveling to Equador this coming september or october. What are my chances of employment?

I am unexperienced at teaching, and I am not certified. I do, however, have a BA in English, and have also completed a few Graduate Studies courses.
Thanks!

Chances of employment- fair to moderate.

Chances of GOOD employment- slim.

Most schools will want some reason to think you know something about teaching. There are some that don't care, of course. But how much fun is it...

You could improve your chances by doing a little TESOL specific training. Or volunteer with immigrants before you come. Or something. But "here I am, hire me to teach" won't get you into a great job.

Justin

The BA in ENglish will help. Jobs usually start in Feb. There is a link for a list of jobs below. Also, being a native speaker will help.

But I do have to agree with Justin. Good jobs are hard to find.

And legal ones even harder.

Okay, so let's say that I do get a little TESOL training, or I do a little volunteer work with immigrants. If I still decide to come in September or October will there be any work or am I being unrealistic?

Of course there will be work, just don't expect to make a fortune. You will probably just make enough to cover your expenses. It seems like 400 or 500 usd is the norm for about 25 or 30 hours a week. And crappy bosses and teaching in-company classes.
But then you make contacts and you will get better jobs.

Thanks for the info. Here's another couple of questions.

Would you suggest teaching Ecuador or Peru?

I've heard that the cheapest way of to Quito is to fly into
Peru and bus from there. Is this true?

And finally, my girlfriend has family in Colombia and she would like
to spend christmas in Bogota. I am very excited by the prospect of visiting Colombia. But we'll have to fly there from Quito, right? Is it safe to bus it to Bogota? Is flying within South America expensive?

Very good, Thanks!

Oh, one more, how expensive are spanish lessons in South America?

You make more in Ecudor, but life is more expensive. As for the buses, I doubt it. It would be a long way. Flying within LA can be expensive, manyu companies have monopolies. As for the bus to Bogata. I'm sure that there are some that are safe and others aren't. You should ask when you get to wherever you are going.
Good luck.
