husband and I have made the decision to give up our ish well paid jobs, rent out our house, give the cat to my mum and move to South Korea....after tonnes of research and soul searching we somehow decided. very excited...and nervous as it seems a bit unusual to be going as a married couple...anyone else just made the big decision? what are your reasons?? ours are that all we seem to do is work work work since uni (and don't get me wrong its given us a house) but its time for a big change! Now the real work begins.
Also want to say that this forum is excellent and has definitely helped with the decision making process - the mixture of posters is great. |

Congratulations! A tough - but rewarding decision - hope it all goes great.
I think it is easier to make the transition as a couple. But, the changes and culture differences can also greatly stress a relationship.
1992 my girlfriend - now wife - and I headed to Korea. We are still TEFLing (is that a word?) - and have taught in Korea, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand.
'Tis a big world out there - go for it! |

Hey Susanpink, congratulations on your decision. My husband and I made a similar decision almost 3 years ago and have now been in China 2 1/2 years. Not unusual for couples to do the ESL thing together. I know of several other couples who have done/are doing it. Our reasons were that we were very unhappy in our jobs at the time, empty nesters and looking for a change. Talk about a change This is our life now. No plans to return to our previous life 'back home.' |

I'd be curious to know what reasons you have for going there, pink? |
