It applies only to flights landing in Chile. In 2003 when I was there, we arrived in B. Aires, did some travelling and took a bus across to Puerto Natales and there was no fee for the land crossing. |

Really?!?!? I thought it was for all border crossings, regardless of how you cross them.
You only have to pay once, though, and your payment is valid for the duration of your passport. (I just got my passport renewed, so I will have to pay AGAIN when I fly down there for my snowboarding vacation!)

I am Canadian so there was no fee. There is a $100.00 USD when entering Chile - this is a recipricocity tax Chile has enforced on US Citizens for the taxes enforced on their citizens to enter the United States. If you are not a US Citizen, you're entry fee can range from $0 - $50 USD. |

For US citizens, I think the fee applies at all borders.

Another question--do we have to pay the fee at the airport if we are in transit?

shouldn't have to pay in transit, because you don't go through "policia internacional" which is when they ask to see the reciprocity paper (stapled into one's passport). |

when we traveled to BA via Santiago there was no fee. Again, this is for a Canadian, traveling from Toronto to BA via Santiago 3 years ago.... |
