Zamami Islands. Take a ferry from Naha and two hours later no bases and lots of beaches and scuba driving.

I second that. Zamami is a small out of the way island that offers nice beaches, good snorkeling, great seafood and friendly locals. Its an easy trip from the main island, which i might add has no worthwhile beaches.

Plenty of lovely islands resembling paradise a short ferry ride fro Naha. Don't be too shocked when you arrive in Naha (it looks like it's still being built).

Just because you didn't find them doesn't mean they aren't there. Went to a nice one near Nago, another pretty one on Sesoko-jima (accessible by car from the mainland) as well on Ike-jima (accessible via a causeway). Some of those were pay beaches. I recommend a trip to Minna-jima too, very beautiful.
