Hi,
I posted a similar question for Dubai and now would like to know about Turkey. I am trying to weigh my options and find the best place for me to start off my ESL career.
So, I would really appreciate anyone helping me out regarding landing a job in Turkey. I have a bachelors degree in commerce, law clerks certificate and am going to be taking a TESL course in May. However, I have no ESL teaching experience. Can anyone give any leads, advice, help? It will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

You will not have any trouble finding a job.. especially at any dersane. Berlitz, Wall Street, English Time, etc.. they will all hire you.. give you mostly nights and weekend work and the pay will not be so great. Maybe you can even get a place to live thrown in for you too. All of those places are crap, but.. BUT.. it's a good way to start.. get some experience.. and move on from there. Turkey is an OK place to live. The cost of living here in Istanbul is pretty high compared to dersane pay, but you can manage, especially if they give you a place to live. Mind you, you might be sharing a place with other people, but maybe if you are lucky you won't have to share your bedroom. I have heard of some places like Berlitz trying to put more than one person in a bedroom.. ala sweatshop style.. hehe Good luck. |

TeachEnglish speaks the truth. For a first time destination in EFL I reckon they dont come much better than Turkey.
NB I wrote Turkey not Istanbul, so that includes Izmir Ollie. |

Thanks for the mention ,mate !
Izmir at the moment seems to be crying out for new blood with or without the right paperwork so it seems ,the dershanes seem to be a bit quiet at the mo,don't know if FGT has any word about her place ,shes not been around Dave's recently . |
