Hi All,
I've just been offered a job in Kakogawa and since it's kind of small I'm having trouble finding any information about it aside from real generalities. Can anyone help me out with a tidbit or two? In particular I was wondering roughly how expensive it is to travel from there to Kobe as I am thinking that's where the nearest action is.
Thanks to anyone who can help me out,

I spent about five years living in the area, 1 in Akashi (10 mins east of Kakogawa) and 4 in Himeji (10 mins west of Kakogawa).
Its a pretty nice city, its small but big enough to have shops, restaurants and a social 'scene'. Its about 30 mins to Kobe by train, which costs about 600 yen. Himeji is 10 minutes away, which is a bigger city than kakogawa and has Japan's most famous castle.
There are also direct trains to Osaka (about 50 min) and Kyoto (about 1h 10 min) that leave every 15 minutes or so from Kakogawa station, so it is very convenient travel wise.
I had some friends who lived there and sometimes would go for dinner in Kakogawa, but I never explored the city in depth. There is a big shopping complex next to the station. There is a temple with an attractive Pagoda somewhere in the northern part of town. Thats about all I know. You should enjoy the place. |

Thanks so much, that's exactly the sort of information I was hoping for.
Anyone else?

No problem.
This page has Kakogawa's top 50 attractions (a lot for a city that small). Its in Japanese, but you can click on each link to see a picture, which might be of some interest. There are a lot of temples and also the main shopping area.

Also, the next city over is Akashi, about 10 minutes by train. There is an excellent bar there called Murphy's that is owned by an Irish guy who has lived there for about 17 years. I learned everything I needed to know about Japan in that place. Tell him Sean sent you. |
