hi,

this may have been covered, but I would like to know if anyone can help me out. A friend is going to move to Tokyo soon but it will be temporary.
I think he would like to stay for three months - through June or into July.
What are the cheapest options for him?
I was thinking of those places without key money, and are also furnished.
If anyone knows related websites or magazines that have related advertising (like Metropolis), please let me know.
I think he may want to live around Ueno but he is flexible.

thank you

For only three months a gaijin house agency like Sakura house would be best.

They're quite expensive but for short term much, much cheaper than paying key money. Also it's easy to move out of them.

I'd recommend forking out the key money for anyone staying longer than a year though.

Apple House in Higashi Koganei has cheap dorm rooms, you might also want to check that place out as well for comparison. Less convenient, 2 stations past Mitaka on the Chuo line, but the dorm rooms used to be 1000 yen a night (might still be)! A regular single room is 60k per month, shared bath/kitchen.
