Hi all

I am officially an Italian Citizen as I got it through my Dad who was born in the country.

My family applied through the Italian Consulate in Australia. It has been successful.

Trouble is , Ive been living in Hong Kong teachine ESL for the last 4 years, hence I cant just walk into the consulate in Aus. and get my passport. So I tried to apply through the Italian Consulate here.

I have never encountered such rude, quick-to-anger and unhelpful people as the Italians. The only nice people among the staff are the Chinese and Filipinos they employ.

They don't care, don't want to help if it requires a bit of work. Asking her to confirm a fax has been recieved was met with a nasty response. I just dont know what is wrong - it has been the same when I spoke to them on the phone in Australia. Is it cause I speak English, not Italian to them>? ( I only know spanish and chinese)

Is it just my experience? Or how do you find the gov. agencies like over there?

I hate to say this because I am an aspiring dual American/Italian citizen (I applied for dual citizenship with the Chicago Consulate more than 10 months ago via an in person appointment and was approved), but Italian Consulate workers think all people, even Italian/Italians who speak Italian, are pure tripe. Well, that could be an over statement. We may be just above sh*t on the human scale. However, if said sh*t is still warm, they may think that it is more human than the actual person standing in front of them.

You are not alone.
