All throughout Asia we nearly always buy less than legal copies of DVDs. Even worse is that with a quick look one can easily tell they aren't real, but the media on them sure is copyrighted.

Anyone ever take a stack of said DVDs or CDs through US customs? Did they want to take closer looks at it? Did you take just a few, or a case full?

You may have some problems with the DVDs even if you manage to slip through customs. If they are region 3 formatted they won't play on a North American DVD player, unless you can change the code setting.

You can take up to 20 copyrighted products back into the states. The law is written in such a way to be ambigious to allow 20 fake things into the country but not one more.

The DVDs usually aren't region specific formatted. So you shouldn't have any problems with that. I tried to find information about this over the internet a couple of years ago but could only find out that it is legal to take fake products (for personal use) out of Taiwan. Not sure about coming into Taiwan, or into other countries for that matter. But don't quote me on this.

Good point Ki. Did anyone get searched in similar fashion going IN to Taiwan? Or does Ki's point seem to have applied for everyone. I'm not there in TW yet but could be on my way some time.
