Hi there Argentina.
I'm currently in Chile, but am coming to visit Buenos Aires in a couple of weeks. Can anyone recommend a good, cheap hostal or hotel to spend a few nights?

There are alot of good ones...for starters:

Chill House - this seems to be "the" spot these days, so book well in advance. It's a small place so it's really intimate and you get to know people...great staff too. It's in Palermo, but not in such a top location as only a few buses run near it and it's a long walk to the closest subway stop.

Milhouse - never been there but it's been previously referred to on this board as a "bloody factory." Talked to people who've stayed there, and the consensus is it's good if you want to not remember your nights and if sleep, and interacting with locals is of little importance to you. Good central location downtown though.

Palermo House - nice, clean, and orderly, but pretty boring. Can't beat location in Palermo Soho but a bit characterless...although the drunken staff made for some interesting antics.

Hmmm...that's all I can think of for now. Personally I try to stay away from any Hostelling International place - I find them too impersonal and alot seem to be run more like a business than a hostel. My 2 cents.

Suerte.

Thanks for the response.

I'm thinkin' now that I'd like to find a place in San Telmo or the microcentro.
More specifically - I'd like a private room with a double bed ( for me and my fella) and access to kitchen facilities.

I'm considering staying at "Residential Carly". It's billed in the lonely planet guide as being "dilapidated but passable" and having saggy mattresses, but it's dirt cheap and right next to Plaza Dorrego.
Has anyone ever stayed there?

Does anyone have any other suggestions?...

Hi!

Im hostaling for the first few days in Buenos Aires, and because I've been there before, I actually hostaled at the Residential Carly, I'd say it's not great, but also not that bad. I prefer somewhere closer to where I will be studying so I'm looking. The Milhouse, a "bloody factory" ... ooops .
