I am now working at this university and they are very good. Salalah is also very cheap and you can get a 6 room villah here for $364 a month- except in the summer- but then you will be out of the country anyway.
I strongly recommend Dhofar university.

They are affiliated with American University - Beirut and the National Technical College [of Oman]. They are "supervised" by the Ministry of Higher Education but this is only arms length. It is essentially a private enterprise which, in its original intent, was suppossed to be a "private, non-profit" learning institution. Tuition fees were hiked significantly in the past few months.
Internal administration: fair to good but your personal relationship with those who control the money and the financial processes will be very important as to whether you get paid "on time". Mind you, "on time" in this part of the world may have a significant disconnect with what "on time" in the US or Canada means. While I worked in Salalah, I was payed first by a sub-contractor [CfBT] and then directly by the MoHE. Never had a problem with payment, but then I cultivated my relationships with the Finance & Admin people very carefully. However, I have never worked for these organizations concerned, so my information is strictly second hand.
Actually flying down there for an interview on your own dime is unusual. Hopefully, upon employment, they will reimburse you. If they won't, beware. Money is tight and all the promises of high pay are worth nothing if they don't have the money to pay you with.
Hopefully, someone with first hand experience with their hiring practices and employment will answer you query.
Good luck. |

I was *offered* a job and then flew in for a personal meeting as a precondition. Then, the offer became a job. I am very happy here now. |

I am interested in this "affiliation with American University - Beirut."
Do you have any information on it? |

Greetings all,
I am interviewing for a position with Dhofar University in Washington D.C. very shortly. I would like to know from DU staff or who are in the know what they think is a decent offer.
I am interviewing for EFL position. I do have my doctorate, as well as some 10 years of adjunct college teaching in a foreign language, in addition to other related full time professional work.
Thanks for any insights.
