Hi, I arrive in Sapporo March 29th for a job hunt trip. I am open to staying if I get a job, but would prefer to come back to the US before heading off for good. I'd appreciate advice. Did any of you get a job this way?
Even if I knew I wouldn't get a job on this trip, I'd go anyway. I want to see Japan before making a final decision. |

Not many takers, eh Mary? If Japan were the States, you are on your way to Alaska. Be sure to let us know how it goes there.
Good luck,

Hi Mary...
just like to second what Sweetsee has said. I would be REALLY interested to hear how you go. All going to plan, I will be doing the same thing in Sapporo/Asahikawa in a few months. Best of luck!

Hang out in the English books section at the Kinokuniya behind the train station... I was there for a half hour when I was visiting Sapporo a few weeks ago and got approached for a private lesson. Of course this never happens in Hakodate, where I live.
Wish I could give you some practical advice... I'm pretty sure the Hokkaido-only EC (diffferent from ECC) does hire from Japan, as one of my friends was hired here for them. However, they have a hellish, mind-numbing month-long training in the beginning. The job is pretty decent after that though, comparable to other eikaiwa here. |

Google "Hokkaido Insider" for a newsletter of jobs; there's a fee but a lot of jobs do get posted. |

I'm considering subscribing to this... does anyone else think this is worthwhile? Just would like a "second opinion" before I send $A60.
