Hi Guys and Gals
First of all, before anyone accuses me of not doing any research, I have read A LOT of opiniosn about EF in general. There seem to be a lot of things said about a lot of schoolsn and I'm sure a lot of it is true.
I'd like to know about one school in particular, but it seems to have two names. Does anybody out there know anything about EF BSD, which is also seemingly caled EF Tangerang?
I'd like to hear some thoughts about salary, relations with management, living conditions, academic stuff (do they have a DoS?) and so on.
Also, does anyone know why there are two names? Is that a reason to be concerned???? |

In the name of education please avoid these jokers.
Avoid like the proverbial plague. And can the DOS stop talking his schools up please. It's a cheap trick and no-one falls for it.

EF BSD <> EF Tangerang
I worked at EF BSD about two years ago. I found them to be okay, but again, that was two years ago. |

I know nothing about the internal workings of that school other than some of my high school students do extra classes there and don't complain about it.
I do know the area quite well - BSD is a new satellite suburb/town, one of many such developments around greater Jakarta. It is less congested and less polluted than central Jakarta and has all the facilities necesary for day-to-day living but lacks any kind of night-life, if that is your thing. The school is opposite the main local shopping centre which contains a fairly large Carrefour supermarket and I believe the teachers' accomodation is in a nearby modern housing estate. There are banks, sports facilities doctors and dentists in close proximity but apart from a few reasonable restaurants and a cinema there isn't much to detain you at weekends.
Although BSD is no more than 20km from central Jakarta it can take a helluva long time to get there depending on traffic. There is a good toll road from BSD to South Jakarta (Pondok Indah) but after that it's traffic jams all the way. There is an a/c bus service although I have never used it myself. The airport is also about 20km away but there is no direct public transport except taxis.
In short, BSD is a safe and fairly convenient suburb in which to live but there isn't much character to it and unless you have your own transport or the funds to get away at weekends I suspect you'd get bored rather quickly. |
