My two sons learnt Japanese by osmosis.

My sons are adults.

I'm gonna ask this again since no one answered this last time. Does ANYONE know if AEON gives out "invites" to the information/group interview session via email or snail mail?

AEON should send you an email if you've been accepted for an interview. (I got one today!) I don't know what their timelines are like in different areas, but in my case they let me know a little less than a week before the interview date. Their website should tell you what that date is for your city.

I'm in Toronto so the interview sessions take place on a weekly basis. That's what it says on their site.

Oh. Well, in that case I guess I don't know what to tell you. It sounds like interviews in Toronto are ongoing; that's not the case here.

Good luck to you.

Thanks Very Happy . Honestly, if I don't even make it to the group interview session, I'll be doin' some real serious cussin'...Haven't heard of too many people NOT making it to this stage. Mind you, I know not everyone gets accepted, but I'd like to at least try.

This is not another one of my "anxiety attacks", rest assured. I think I may have shafted myself with my AEON application. Reason? On my application essay which asks the standard 'why you want to live and work in Japan', peep the following sentence: First and foremost, it is important explain things in a way that is clear, concise and understandable...it's supposed to be 'to explain'. I really thought I ran the thing through a fine tooth comb. I guess not. Serves me right to be burning the midnight oil trying to finish the thing Evil or Very Mad Sad . Oh well, you live and you learn.

Well, the end of this week will signal the 2 week mark and that means no AEON group interview/information session for me. Man! I feel like I've just wasted a shitload of time putting everything together. I know there are three more places to apply to and I fully intend on doing that, but right now I'm just feeling discouraged, esp. since I know that most people DO get invited to the session. I guess I have no choice, but to just pick myself up and keep goin'. Seems to be the story of my life.

I just called AEON and they confirmed the obvious. That if I don't hear from them within two weeks, my application was unsuccessful. Got it right from the recruiter's mouth. I told her who I was and she looked it up and confirmed that an email had been sent to me exactly two weeks ago which I received. I asked her if she could give general reasons as to why an application may have been denied and she said that it was "against company policy" to give out that kind of information. What a fuckin' waste of time. So once again, I ask this question as no one really answered it for me: HOW NORMAL IS IT FOR SOMEONE TO NOT EVEN MAKE IT TO THE GROUP INTERVIEW/INFO. SESSION? It can't be too common, I think. What do you think?

Don't sweat it, Jazz. It's more common than you would think. Aeon can be selective, and they get quite a few essays and apps.

Aeon's hardly the only game in town. Keep on trying, it'll happen for you.

Thanks for your kind words. I'm feeling more grounded and calm right now. Onwards and upwards, right? Very Happy

I just applied to both ECC & GEOS via their online application form. Talk about a HUGE load off my shoulders. Right now, I'm trembling both in anticipation and from nervousness. As for NOVA, I've decided to put it aside for a day or two due to the brain cramps I have as a result of revising my essay and resume. I know exactly where I went wrong with AEON and have made the necessary changes. You live and learn, right? Ah well, I've managed to take control of what I am able to control; the rest is out of my hands. In any case, if all goes well, I'll be in Japan at or around the end of June (god willing). Keeping my fingers crossed in the meantime. Very Happy

I've heard about the dreaded ECC grammar test and will prepare for it by picking up a copy of 'English Grammar for Dummies' and the like. I know you can only study for it so much and some say you can't study for it at all, but I'm gonna try anyways.
