I have been teaching in China 7 years now some schools will get you a Z visa and some will say they will but dont. Dont trust the schools too much. Talk to teachers that have worked at the schools. The expert teachers book, anyone can get for you with all the papers. Its a little thing most schools dont care. You can get an F visa or a L visa in Hong Kong in one day and start work the next day in China but its not legal and yes I have done it and I am doing it now.
The schools I want to teach at do not have the right to hire foriegn teachers. The up side is they pay for my trouble.

Always try to work for a school that can get you the residence permit and the foreign experts certificate. Don't work on an F or L visa, you are asking for trouble.

i'm not working on a Z visa at the moment either. partly the schools fault and partly mine. at any rate, i'll finish this contract on the same visa i have now, and i'm not worried. the school is ok, and i dont plan on running out on them. was there any particular reason for the original post? most if not all of us here know that you really should be working on a Z visa.....

I saw a posting about getting a visa in China. They dont have residence permits anymore it comes with your Visa. I have worked with an F and L visa many years with no problem. For the new people comming over to China. I read alot of garbage about China and thought I would let people know what I have done. May they just want to scare people into not comming to china.

I am sure even you risowa, would not want China to be swamped by tourist or cowbowy teachers.

The more illegals that are among us, the worse the image gets of all FTs!

And that inevitably leads to lower respect and lower pay. And fewer jobs!

One conseuqence of your behaviour is already in place: the national guidelines on employment of FTs say that you must obtain your work visa overseas, travel here on a work visa, then get it changed to a residence permit.

And many provinces actually enforce this guideline - see that post started by klasies on Hainan!

I am and always will be a cowboy and tourist. If I was here for the money well Korea is close and not a bad place.

The image and respect I get I earn its not from what other teachers have done or will do. I will only work for the pay that I think fits my work. There are many ft's that are legal and give a poor image of themselves which relates to little respect from the Chinese people.
