I wonder if anyone has come across any kind of list of BOEs that hire directly. If not, why don't we start one here... if you know of any please share the info.

I, like many, want to avoid the middle-man dispatch companies - if at all possible. Anyway, any tips on this issue are much appreciated.

Unfortunately, that's not going to happen... Yes dispatch companies suck... But I'm going to say this as politely as I can.... There's no way in HECK I'm going to say at which BoE I'm employed so you can come here and steal my job from me. Smile

Nothing personal, ya know -- but people are pretty protective if they have something good... I'm not sure how many people around here are going to be willing to disclose that kind of info.

Tips on how to circumvent this? Do your homework the hard way -- as far as I know, everyone who has a direct BoE job had to do that too. Start with the regions where you want to work and start phoning city offices. If your Japanese isn't up to par you may need a Japanese friend to help you...

I have to agree with Jim.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if places such as Interac have one of those lists with a list of BOEs that they put a line through every now and again, but if they didn't I wouldn't want Interac getting that information from here.

Jeez, man! I never even thought of that.... I must be tired.

INTERAC CORPORATE GOON #1: So, where are we going to scoop some new contracts, Bob?

INTERAC CORPORATE GOON #2: I dunno... Let's just hop onto Dave's and take a peek. Thanks, suckers!

Be afraid! Shocked

Good points. I agree, it's not much in your interests to reveal such info. I've had a couple good leads in the last month, but man, I've also run into a few BOEs that used to hire directly, up until a year ago - when Interac moved in for the kill.

Thanks anyway.

Just off on a tangent a little.

Is there anyway of beating interact I mean there must be some negatives for the BoE's regarding Interac's rather shoddy service.

It's all about sales. If Interac sends a freshly groomed snakeoil salesman along with their low bid, who will the BOE choose? Interac is big and it's been around a while. Smaller companies can't supply the number of teachers that BOEs need, so even if another illegal dispatch company wins a bid, they won't be able to supply all the teachers that the BOE needs.

The best way to beat Interac is for Interac ALTs to turn the company in for non-enrollment in shakai hoken and numerous violations of dispatch law.

The job I have now was advertised in Japanese in the city`s Hello Work. I heard about it through a Japanese friend. This summer two new positions came up, and we current ALTs were asked to suggest our friends, while a small notice went up in the local international centre. BoE jobs are pretty rare. Most of the other BoE ALTs I work with are lifers with kids and all that, and not giving up their jobs any time soon. You certainly won`t see them advertised on here or GaijinPot. Got to get lucky, I think, like I did.
