Ok, I am not shocked that the ADU topic has been put to a stop. Let me set the record straight, first of all, I never meant for the discussion to turn personal, and I did apologies for any misinformation I gave out. Go back and check all of the postings on this point. 2nd, the info about ADU that was given out at the time, was accurate, as no information about summer pay was given out, maybe my comments helped the ADU managent make up it's mind. I don't know, but I can hope it helped. I do want ADU to get better, but in the mean time, things are BAD. The facts are true about our current director, her UAE experience is from working with KG, she did it for over 7 years, if you don't believe me, ask her yourself. She has little to no experience with Uni students concerning ESL. I am not out to get her, but to wake her up to the fact, we are tired of her non-sense talk, we are not babies, and if she cared about life at ADU, then she would care for her staff and students, she should put her money where her mouth is, and do her job, not cater to the clicks/popularity wanna bees. Hopefully they will hire a person who can be the kind of director of the ELI can benifite from, someone who is better qualified then her and actually have people, management and a good educational back ground on Linguistics. Anyone who right at this moment is working at ADU-ELI AA or AD knows we are stressed, depressed and de-motivated. We have coordinators and head-teachers who really need a wake up call. Pay is bad, if not the worst in the UAE. I wish I had read the board before joining ADU, but what choices were there the MLI was closing, I took the first job that I was offered. The only thing I care about in this forum is to help warn people about not joining ADU. I made the dumb mistake and now I am trapped, really, if I leave right now, I will be banned and they would make sure I walked away owing them money instead of me getting any kind of gratuity. Bottom line is ADU is a bad place to work. So stay away. If this is my last post, at least I did my best to tell the truth. And Dr. D was a amazing boss for those who worked with her. Sorry she is not around today. I will do my best to report facts, as they are. That was my purpose when I joined this forum. Excuse me again, if I gave out misinformation. That was not my intention. Stay way from ADU, if you value your sanity |

So far as many private "universities" are concerned (and not just confined to the Arabian Gulf), ADU sounds par for the course.
Rather than trouble shoot the messages circulating on various trade grapevines, the standard practice is to shoot the messenger.
Keep circulating the messages. Perhaps one day someone with true leadership skills will take the lead and convince the owners that having an established higher education institution should be about more than raking in barrels of dirhams each month. On some level maybe the owners can be persuaded to take part in making a contribution to their nation by providing a decent education to their customers. |

Flowergrl, I have to say I have read your past posts, and you are not exaggerating. I can honestly say the 70-80 % of what you are saying is true, as we see many of the same offences here at the main campus. I work at the main campus; I'm a faculty member there. I am not sure what happens in the ELI portion of the organization, but on our end, we have just as many problems. I can also comment on the fact that recently colleague left and he/she was put through hell. They made his/her life miserable for 3 weeks. The HR department of the organization really needs new management. I can also comment on the fact I personally have been in meetings with both your current director and the past one Dr. D, and I can defiantly say that your current one is unqualified. There really is no comparison on the level of expertise or professionalism between the two. I'm not sure of if Dr. D, was the best candidate for the ELI, but your current on is really a fish out of water. I am surprised she has lasted as long as she has. She must have some Waaasta with Dr. O. Hope life gets better for the ELI. Good luck and keep us posted, we are always interested in what is happening in the ELI. We hear so many horror stories from students when they come to the main campus. Really can't imagine working in your conditions. |

In the midst of this fiasco ... have they the gall ... I wonder ... to make their staff jump through the ever fashionable hoops of 'professional-development' ...
Now wouldn't that be something ... unprofessional professional development ! ... not far away from many a place around here ...
The irony of course being that the best move one can make in terms of one's 'professional development' ... is to get on the next plane out ... |

Well, I'm not sure what is happening at the ELI, but in the news today, the MoE announced, high standards for students, they forgot to say, in order to achieve these kinds of standards, you need quality employees, a competent director. It's a shame, even the medias glasses are tainted with the petrol mullah. I can say this; the ELI director must be laughing her way to the bank today. |

Well, today the poor students who failed took the now so famous Accuplacer. The University did not let any student sit the exam unless they paid the 4000 dhs to sit the exam. They had to register first for the following session before they could re-sit the exam. What a crime, 1st you pay then you can sit the exam the ELI is giving for free. Criminal I tell you. All they care about is where the next dirham is coming from. No classes were held today, everyone was focused on the re-sit exam, more wasted teaching time. I really have to agree with you luck4me and Sheikh Inal Ovar, all the director cares about is she has full classrooms, it does not matter how it happens as long as it happens. I am happy you had a chance to meet the new director and pass judgment for yourself and that someone else things the ELI is a sinking ship. Do you agree? Will try to keep you posted on what is happening in the ELI AA and AD as much as I can. |

Students at the main campus have just informed me that 90% of the students, who sat the re-sit exam, have failed. Wonder what ADU next step will be to correct the problem. Our friends at the ELI must be pulling their hair out! Flowergrl can you confirm this? |
