Rolling Eyes This is where my daughter will be interviewing in May. She could use any insight you might have. also, Her boyfriend will be interviewing also.

They are both English majors, graduating May '07 hoping to be assigned to Kyoto. I'm looking into things like electronics, mail, phone and naturally Money!! (seeing how I'll be subsidizing my daughter's "Japan teaching experience".)... Confused

I interviewed there with them about a year ago, I didn't get the job. Later on I applied for GEOS and went with them. If they are hoping to go there in May of next year, isn't this all a bit too soon?

I had to present 5 minutes of a 20 minutes lesson, so which is basically just enough time for a warmup and eliciting/presenting your lesson target. If you search for "Aeon interview" in this forum you will see loads of advice. hope this helps,

john

Everybody hopes to be asigned to Kyoto. It's a plum location much fought over by existing staff desiring transfers. The chance of your daughter and b/f getting a first posting there is small.

Elctronics, mail, phone are no problem. This is Japan.

There hould be no need to subsidise her overall Japan teaching experience - real wages and conditions have not fallen that far yet -although she'll need a plane ticket and $2000 or so to get her started.

Ah yes, beautiful El segundo. I applied through that office as well. The recruiters there are very cool, and pretty up front. There already is a ton of info about what to do in the interview on this site, so no worries there.

Looks like all the question bases have been covered, but if there's anything specific, feel free to ask.

Electronics: they make them here. Denden town in Osaka is the best place to get deals but Sofmap in Kyoto is where I buy all my hardware.

Email is easily available via Internet cafes and if she buys a PV or a laptop she can sign up with one of big providers. I use Yahoo BB and it costs me about 4,000 yen a month. She can buy a mobile phone or a landline cheaply once she arrives here.

She will need a return airfare and about $2000 for the first month there. AEON provides accomodation which costs about 40,000 yen a month. If they rent elsewhere they still have to pay double rent.

I live in Kyoto and I think the chances of getting posted there are small. Thats my opinion anyway. One of the choice locations but somewhere that doesnt have a lot of traffic by students.

FAQs on Japan

1 year is too early to be looking for jobs. It takes 2 months to get a visa and companies wont be interviewing before Spring 2007. AEON wont process their visa until they actually qualify for their degrees.
