Ok its been less than a month that we've lived in this place and yesterday my husband tried to crank the heater for hot water in the shower. nothing happened. he checked everything and nothing happened. it was dead by all means.
the gas company rep comes out to the house --an hour late and also looking very drunk-- and proceeds to tell me in broken english "Dame. No use shower." and makes the batz "x" sign with his hands several times.
My japanese friend tranlsates on the phone : Your shower is totally dead. the whole thing needs to be replaced. it will be very expensive.
please dont turn on the shower for safety reasons. he will talk to your landlord with a quote. if she agrees right away you may have a new shower by wednesday. if she has to think about it, no one knows when you will have a new shower."
Then my japanese friend says "Maybe he is drunk."
Then my friend added: The landlord decides if you can get the same type shower(crank style) or a newer modern type of shower. And when.
So now it's day two and no shower. I refuse to "baby-wipe" myself til Wednesday or even longer. We will likely have to start taking showers at the gym in the military base or go to a hotel. Is there anything I could do in this situation? I want to wear my shower shoes and bring my shampoo down to my landlords house (they live behind me in a huge---HUGE) house and shower there!!! My landlord doesn't speak english and we got this place with a guarentoor, who is currently on vacation out of the country. The landlord's son knows some english but he is on a "spiritual retreat" in Thailand. No joke. Any ideas folks???
And I'm also wondering if there is any way we can persuade the landlord to put in the newer version of a heater in the bathroom...we did sign a 2 yr lease.... |

Come up to our place! Not kidding, just call. I'll put the towels on the warmer. We have a pretty nice bathtub/shower. I believe you're about a 10 minute drive from us.
Otherwise, find someone to bitch at your landlord. That needs to be fixed, and fast. You shouldn't have to pay full rent while there's no shower/bath, either. |

The idea of using his shower is genius, do it.
...and play the stupid gaijin who cant understand a single word of his English.
That'll pursuade him to fix it faster. |

If your toilet happens to break too, take a dump in your landlord's yard. |

FYI----Everyone, I got a new shower five days after the old one broke!!! The gas company and repairmen came out to our place and installed a brand new one with the little lady that talks!!! I didn't really have to complain too much to the landlord, but then again I did stay at a hotel for a bit and then showered at the gym---and get this: she offered her shower at her house for us to use!!!! Thanks for the advice everyone! |
