Is it that bad where you are? Get a decent suit if you're gonna wear a suit! (Actually, first, get a decent job, then get a decent suit.)

Personally, I don't wear suits, but I do think my attire is businesslike and not shabby...

PS- I've been places where teachers are often "financially challenged." But it doesn't have to be that way...

Where I am, a suit is a great choice of attire. Mexico City has a strong suit culture. You can find a homeless person, asleep under a bridge here, but he'll still be wearing a suit.

I'll wear suits to the company classes, but most often I doff the tie and jacket for the TEFL classes.

Many professional women in Mexico City opt for dress slacks instead of a skirt. Pretty much only schoolgirls or young fashionable women wear skirts. Mind you, it's been quite warm the last two weeks, so the layers are coming off.
