As far as do's and don't:

In my experience, there isn't one trick that will get you a contract with a good school. I was introduced to the headmaster of a high school because he was pals with a friend of mine. But the headmaster offered me a lousy salary. Who was doing who a favor? So I said I'd get back to him later. A month passes, I meet with the headmaster again, and he ups the salary with the same hours. So contacts, negotiation, and patience can help.

One thing I don't suggest is assuming you know who you're talking to on the phone. I was offered a contract and I was calling the guy to accept when a woman answered the phone. I couldn't understand why his wife was giving me the third degree, starting all over again with my name and where I was from. She was arrogant beyond belief. I said I just wanted to deal with the guy when she announces that she is the FAO and no one is hired without her say so. We already hated each other and it was all down hill from there.

Needless to say, I didn't get the contract, but that didn't stop the original guy from shopping my name around for a month to other uni's in the area. When it rains, it pours. I actually got sick of schools calling me. My rather impolite way of telling them I wasn't interested was to ask "How much is the salary" as my first question. Yes, asking about the salary in the first meeting is a big turn off to prospective schools.

good luck Klamm...uni's aren't everything...and sometimes the uni students are lazier than the high school students.

Just to let those know who may be interested...

I was right in the end. I held and held and in the end that 3,500 Rmb offer went to 6+. Laughing

Hold on! Hold on tightly!

klamm, I imagine you're good at cards. Glad you won out. Obviously your school thought you were the man for the job. Hope the school year passes as well.

However, I believe, not all schools would been so sold on you and would have just chucked you 'cause they get a sheetload of resumes. Unbelieveable all the fellas wanting to head to some locations cause they already have an internet honey there. Wink
