|
|
Hello - haven't posted here for awhile... I am in Istanbul now teaching in a koleji... And may have to consider moving to Ankara... How is it there really and I suppose the teaching positions are the same as here in Istanbul? I work in a private college and teach children. 9 hours everyday, you know the routine...
Any thoughts or advice?? I have made a life here and have home everything and now may chuck it all to go to live there... My partner may go so I must go too...
Thanks... Have a good day. |

| Sadly the lack of response on your question says more about this most boring of capital cities . |

| Scot, I see Doha isn't on your list. Are you missing it and thinking fondly of the past? |

Doha was so awful that I have erased it from my memory banks.
I will stick to Saudi although for me Jeddah was better than Eastern Province. |

| Hmmm... it is my hope to move to Ankara as well at some point, though there are not sure dates. I assumed the best way is to just go there and nose around for a little bit. Anyone have any contacts there? |

| I did go to Ankara a couple of times looking for work and making a few new friends .The social life or to be more specfic the seemingly total lack of it put me off from committing myself and the winters up there are bloody cold . Izmir is a much better proposition in every respect . Just my 20 kurus worth . |

Yes.... I guess that the first response is THE response! Thanks. That is what I thought about that city even my turk friends said same thing about Ankara. Lots of buildings and cement.
I think I am better off here in Istanbul.
Thanks. |

| wise move. i just came back from there today after a brief visit and it was actually the worst experience i have ever had in turkey. really, i don't know how anyone could live there. it seems to me that there are much more magandas per capita there as well... hats off to you mongrelcat, don't know how you could live there. |

| Have been here a year and frankly I was better off in Moscow. Dull as ditch water and surrounded by the living dead, for the most part, who don't take kindly to foreigners. DONT COME HERE!!!!! Unless you can afford to fly somewhere every weekend. Forget the ex-pat scene-full of hustlers or diplomats. Often wonder if I'm Robinson Crusoe..... |

| Try TED Koleji. I met a lot of the Ankara folks when I was working at the TED kayseri school. They're good and fair. |
