For any-one not familiar with The Open University of the U.K. It is the largest Uni in the U.K. It is home study but you must sit the test in an approved classroom setting.

I don't think so. Online degrees, which is about the same thing, aren't recognised. As long as your degree doesn't state anywhere that it is home study you should be okay. Just like how some people can get away with fake degrees really. |

I tend to agree with Ki but you may have a chance otherwise.
The most convenient way to find out would be to ask your university if it is internationally recognized and ask for a list of countries that do recognize it. You could then confirm this by contacting the CLA in Taiwan to ask them if they recognize your institution. I wouldn't bother asking the overseas TECO offices that represent Taiwan as they are pretty incompetent. |

Isn't that the truth. Tried getting the one in Bangkok to issue a visa in less than week last year, they claimed they didn't know how!! |

Thanks for the responses. I e-mailed the CLA some time ago but never got a reply. I will contact The Open Uni. |

Last time I checked, the ROC government did NOT recognize these degrees for some specific purposes; for example, obtaining positions at a university.
A friend of mine got his doctorate via a well-known "accredited" online university in the US but was screwed, screwed, screwed when he tried to get a promotion to Assistant Professor.
My best advice: check with the specific institution to which you are applying. |
