Not sure, may cable TV has it (Perfect TV) but its not on regular channels. Some sports bars show NBA and NFL

By the way many universities also field American football teams so you may want to consider seeing it played by college kids here. they have inter-university tournaments, pads and all.

No Pro-ball in Japan though.

sounds cool! i can definitely go to sports bars, and if i have to pay for cable to get it. i will.

of course, i can always have my mates in the states tape the games and mail them to me!

the college teams sounds cool. i'll have to check that out when i get there.

my biggest concern is that since my bengals are going to win the superbowl this year, i don't want to miss the season! Razz Razz

You can get the season (taped) on Gaora and other services, no worries. You won't be watching on Sunday afternoons and Monday night, though.

You're asking the wrong people, my friend. I'll give you the REAL skinny on this one! Wink

If you play your cards right, there's more NFL games on than you will even WANT to watch -- it's a matter of getting them.

NFL is aired primarily in 3 ways in Japan. GAORA (sports channel) G+ (sports channel) BS-2 (NHK free public broadcasting).

For GAORA and G+ you need to get cable or satellite. Both are fairly easy to get and reasonably cheap. Many apartments already have a cable hookup included with the rent... If you have CABLE you will also have BS-2. Sweet deal. To get G+ and GAORA however you have to subscribe.... You can also *cough* get a descrambler *cough* but you never heard that from me.

I gotta run to work but please PM me if you want the details on this. Let me just add that most games are on a 1-week tape delay... So if the season in the U.S. is playing Week 2, you will be watching Week 1. That is not the rule however. Sometimes it's much quicker than that. Some games are played live or only on a several hour tape delay. It's a matter of knowing what comes on when and which channel. I can't get into details right now.

The Superbowl is ALWAYS played live. But it comes on at 6 am. on a Monday morning... So you have to either take a day off work or tape it and stay away from ALL news sources, including the Internet until you get home in the evening.

English broadcasting is also usually available but you need a TV (or VCR) capable of stereo/SAP audio switching. Old and el-cheapo TVs do not have this function.

Anyway, you will not be disappointed with the football coverage here, unless of course you are a CFL fan from Canada. Then you're screwed, eh!

Sweetsee: You're talking to someone's who's got it down to a SCIENCE! Surprised

Your info wasn't inaccurate -- just a bit incomplete. Wink Also, BTW... Monday night is GREAT for watching NFL in Japan.... Since we're a day ahead of the U.S. Japanese Monday Night Football = U.S. Sunday Football.... But the hours are a bit off, that's true. Also, many games come on during the week too. Between the three channels I mentioned, you'd be WAIST-DEEP in football.... My friend always records and watches no less than 3 or 4 games a week. If you were to watch everything that they aired here, you wouldn't have any other social life -- so it pays to be somewhat selective.

Anyway, what's on tap for this weekend? (Pun intended Question Laughing ) Umm... Not much, for once. If all goes well I'm going to pursue my hobbies... Go on a long motorbike ride, go to a friend's BBQ/house-warming party, go to church (as usual -- I play piano and keyboard in the band), play World of Warcraft and start preparing for Passover which starts next Wednesday evening.

I love my life in Japan! Smile

*P.S. I have no issues with Christians playing Warcraft... as long as (like anything) it doesn't get to be a lifestyle or addiction.

I would also add this link.

http://www.nfljapan.co.jp/tv/index.html

It lists all television broadcasts of NFL games throughout the entire season and post-season. It is mostly in Japanese, but it's still easy to follow. You just need to read katakana to figure out which teams are playing. Also, on the far right column 再放送 means a rebroadcast of a taped game, and LIVE means a live broadcast.

BTW, FWIW, I wouldn't watch Japanese college ball even if you paid me! It's absolutely painful to watch! Complete crap!

I am one of those CFL fans.

During the 2004 Playoffs, the owner of my team hooked me up with a live Internet feed of the game, but that was 'unofficial'.

In the near future, (The next TV contract) he is going to try and ensure that Internet CFL feeds become a reality.

He put WiFi in our stadium, so he is a tech head, and I look forward to internet CFL webcasts.
