I'm currently teaching english in Japan, but looking to leave within a year, hopefully getting a job in Tijuana. Why??? My father's Mexican and has never been in contact with any of his family from that city. My grandmother has a few pictures and some numbers that don't work, but I'd like to learn the language, soak up more than the culture my dad provide (just cooking skills), and maybe do some geneology searching. But I only have a bachelor's in English/Journalism and will have 2.5 yrs teaching experience in Japan. And Chichi? She's my American-born very unfriendly chihuahua. (Yes I know about chichis. My dad named her)

Any advice would help. Oh and I dunno if it matters, but I also have a husband. Humm... I guess I should have mentioned that. But he is very very flexible. No kids though. Just me, 24, him 23, and Chichi, 3 yrs in human time. Very Happy

What are you asking about exactly? What does you're husband do?
My advice, keep him on a short leash, the husband I mean, not the dog! Laughing

I'm sorry the first post was so vague. I'd like to teach english in mexico. I only have a bachelor's with no certification. only experience. I'd like a job that gets by...meaning enough to eat out once a wk, travel around mexico to museums, do a little geneology research, and mail about $300 home a month to pay bills. I have a fondness for tequila but only occasionally and we only require internet and a good bathroom. I only have a dog and a husband. My husband has a degree in business, but no cert. either, and is up for the adventure. Smile

So are we out of our minds? Do most jobs in Mexico require lang. knowledge, certifications, etc????

thanks in adv. for any insight you can provide!

Save enough money while you are in Japan to support you in Mexico, then you won't have to worry about anything.

Most Mexican language schools weren't that fussy about certification or teacher's education last time I looked, but bear in mind that those who pay anything remotely decent will be universities, and they will want more qualifications. Like I said, take a million yen with you and then just use your teacher's salary for daily expenses, and your savings for luxuries from time to time.

As for the doggie, he looks horribly like something a teacher here had last year. I knick-named her little friend boshintung, which didn't please her very much. Twisted Evil
