Dearest mick_luna,

You've created more than 20 threads here. What have you learned from them that will specifically help you choose your next location to maximize the potential for a successful experience in the arts, in your creative life, and in your social life? Anything? Anything at all?

I'm learning every day, Mr Misanthrope. Some of us try to do that, rather than put on a front like we know everything and are better than everybody else. And i'm old enough and wise enough to realize i don't want to keep re-inventing the wheel, having to go through hard knocks that others could have warned me about.

This and the other forums are great learning opportunities, and i'm glad to share what i've learned in the various places i've been with others. but of course this kind of thing wouldn't interest you, as you have all the answers. i really wonder why you are so concerned about me, and my wrong-headed ways? could this be love Laughing

Have you narrowed your search down any? Which cities have you discovered that have thriving arts scenes that meet your criterion of "bohemia"? Any? Any at all?

Seems like after over twenty threads, you should be narrowing down rather than going in circles. When students go in circles, we try to get them to make specific changes that will lead to better results. Otherwise, the students tend to fail rather miserably. We definitely don't want failure for our mick_luna again, do we?

Dearest mick,

If you dare to PM me, I'll share with you some tips on joining the arts scenes in foreign cities. In my work in several countries, I am able to schedule visits to specific places to participate in performances and other gatherings of like-minded colleagues in the arts. It only requires some networking. Needless to say, I don't find out about these things on anonymous Internet forums. Wink

Unlike some people, i don't need to hide behind an alias, ('luna' is a little different than my legal surname, but it is my artist name) as i don't say anything on a forum i wouldn't say to someone's face. And as for meeting you and your colleagues, nothing that you have ever written has given me any taste for that.
while creativity is a vital part of my life, i have found many 'artistic' people who think that that label gives them licence to ride roughshod over everyone they can. that isn't my idea of what makes for a happy, creative community, and has nothing to do with what i'm looking for.
it may be that the balance i'm looking for doesn't exist in this world, but while there's life, there's hope. but if crushing hope is what makes you happy, i guess you'll just go on trying. have fun...

Did I call myself an "artistic" type and give myself the "artistic" label? Where?? I'd never do that. Just as I'd never refer to myself as a "bohemian." Wink

And did I ask you to meet me and my "colleagues"?? Heaven forbid. Where did I do that? Aren't you getting just a bit presumptuous in our relationship?? Wink

Dearest mick, I don't want to crush your hope. Where did I say that?

Rest assured, "balance" of the type that you might be looking for does indeed exist in the world. Many people have found it (myself included). But it will take much more than trolling on anonymous Internet forums for you to find it.

You might not be "anonymous," but the advice you receive is from people you don't even know. No wonder you were led astray in Hanoi. Who would possibly travel across the Pacific on the advice of somebody on an anonymous forum? Rolling Eyes
