hey guys,
i was registered on here as 'karley' before but when i tried to change some info on my account i could no longer log in. so here's to the new account.
i'm a canadian - just graduated with a bachelor of journalism honours. planning on heading to poland in september to teach. i've emailed a bunch of schools and so far heard back from only one:
http://englishcollege.pl/en/
english college in radom, poland.
if anyone has any info/experience regarding this place, i would love to hear about it. i can't seem to find too much info about the city itself. i've been looking for pictures and that sort of thing.
i don't have any teaching experience yet but i have my TESOL certification and international teachers license. just looking for somewhere in poland to go for a year to teach. my boyfriend is coming, too. he works as a network engineer here in canada. we're wondering how likely it is that he might be able to find a job in his field in poland (in english). i figure the internet is being widely used now, they must need people who are experts in computers to work pretty much everywhere now.
also, when the schools say they provide accomodations, will they allow a partner/spouse to live with you there?
i'm waiting for this school to get back to me on several questions.
i've been reading this forum for quite some time now, and it's exciting to actually start applying for jobs in poland. |

re: problems logging in... I've had the same problem in the past. All you need to do is email DaveSperling, and he sorts out the problem for you. Good luck. K |

There's nothing in Radom. You'll even find people joking about it in the Katowice thread.
I was once changing trains in Radom and decided to see the "old town." From the station you can see a tall cathredral. So I walked towards it. When I got there that was all there was, a tall cathredal...
Maybe this'll help.

There's nothing in Radom except concrete apartment buildings, a couple of factories and a McDonalds. It's a place people come from rather than go to. It was developed as an industrial centre after the war (its glory days had passed long before that) and consequently is mostly monotonous, grey and depressing. There are a few pretty bits though, in the very run down centre. It's 80km from Warsaw, though and only two hours on a train with hard plastic seats and a crime problem. But few locals would believe that anybody actually wanted to go and live there.

And by the way. I don't want to sound discouraging, but there's lots of Polish computer specialists (maybe too many for the market here) who work for lower wages than an expatriate would want to take. Your boyfriend's best bet is to try a recruitment agency based outside Poland, probably in the UK/US who might be looking for people tosend here. The work would be in Warsaw, though. It is a nice city, much nicer than Radom.

I think my computer must be from Radom. |

Here is the link where your boyfriend should send his CV - maybe they will find something for him:
http://www.grafton.pl/?lang=en_GB
it's a professional recruitemnt agency and they have job ads also in English. other places where he can find something are:
http://www.jobpilot.pl/
http://pracuj.pl/
although they are only in Polish you may find ads in English there, however you need to enter some criteria for search, which will be rather impossible if don't know Polish.
PS: I also recommend bigger cities rather than Radom |

thanks for all of your help, advice and suggestions.
i definitely hope to go to a city larger (and nicer) than radom.
ideally, i would like to be in krakow.
but i am still in the researching stage right now, so i am just trying to not overlook any opportunity.
i wondered why i couldn't find any photos of radom.... haha.
thanks for the links for jobs for my boyfriend. we will definitely look at those. |
