If you are going sans degree then you should try to get some sort of TEFL qualification if legal is what you are looking for. Also, you will find it is a lot easier to get a work permit without a degree outside of Bangkok. I am inclined to say that if you are not in Bangkok and you have a diploma and some sort of TEFL, even online, certificate that you will be in like flynn.
Don't go with a fake degree, it just isn't worth it. It will present problems later on. |

I agree totally - hope my previous post didn't sound like I was encouraging bogus documents. However, if you present your real diploma or jr. college certificate and the powers that be accept them -- well, seems ok to me - please feel free to jump in and disagree! |

| You'll get work in Bangers easily with no degree. Will be tricky to get a WP though, not impossible though. |

I should hope that those without degrees are either working on one or planning to do so. There are so many distance education programs available today and the ones from South Africa and other depressed economies are downright inexpensive. I got my degree from the cheapest/easiest/accredited online university in the United States (yes, I studied the subject carefully). http://www.excelsior.edu
It did take me a few years of effort to complete it, but it has been worth it. Once you earn a degree you get to keep it for life. |

Some are, some aren't, some have comparable, some don't have the time or see the need etc.
IME and IMO it doesn't really help you to be a teacher in any way (generally).
But like you say it's generally yours for life unless your Uni shuts down and you lose the original and you can't get a new one |

The attitude in this statement just rubs me the wrong way.
Do you teach EFL?
Also, how is having a degree that is unrelated to TESOL/Applied Linguistics or Education going to matter anyway? |
