Well, I've decided to go to Brazil for about 3-6 months, but there's obviously only so much that I can take. What should I bring with me and what should I leave behind? Also, I'm planning to teach when I arrive, but I know I'm going to need some money to tide me over until things get rolling. What's the best way to do this? I've heard traveller's checks are difficult to use in Brazil, but cash seems too risky. I do have an international ATM card and I think that might be the best idea, but I am curious as to how common international ATMs are in Belo Horizonte? I'd appreciate any help and guidance anyone could give me about bringing money over and just about what I should and shouldn't bring with me to Brazil. Thanks! |

Its so vague. Brazil has available just about everything you can imagine though if thats what you mean.
International ATM's in Belo.. not entirely sure.. but Sao Paulo and Rio de Jainero had them everywhere. Probably the same with Belo Horizonte. |

Belo has over 2 million people and lots of banks. Here is a link to a list of banks in Belo: http://www.privatebanking.info/user/category.jsp?location_id=1830&category_id=1&category_page_id=0&published=1
As there is a Citibank and an HSBC you shouldn't have a problem accessing an ATM. Just check to see what the charges are for international ATM transactions at your bank. They can sometimes be $10 per transaction. Also, make sure that your PIN is only 4 digits as many foreign ATMs only accept 4 digit pins.
Good Luck
