Hi all,

Are there any (preferrably English-speaking) interests groups/organizations for writers in Hong Kong? (i'd like to know other freelance writers in hong kong...) Also, what about interest groups for music lovers/amateurs who are able to play an instrument to get together to exchange ideas, or even to form a band perhaps?? (I play the piano and Erhu - Chinese fiddle)

If you have some info or share similar interests and would like to start an interest group, please contact me! Thanks a lot! Very Happy

carol
PS. sorry this is a non-teaching related topic.

Hi there, Well you will probably find some stuff if you look in the HK Magazine and also check out the Fringe club. Other events I know of is Poetry reading at Joyce is not here on Wednesdays in Central. As for music I've heard about a few bands here and there but don't know of any clubs.

But I am a keen writer and music lover. So email me if you like and we could talk.

There's a Hong Kong Writers Circle and I once met someone who was a member of some kind of women's writing organisation in Hong Kong. I have no idea what either organisation is like but a quick google should get you their sites and contact info. I'm sure there are others also.

For music there are too many organisations to mention, places like the Fringe would be a place to start though.

Also, I wouldn't limit yourself to explicitly English-speaking organisations, if you do you'll miss out on 95% of the cultural life of the city and you'll find most Hong Kong organisations quite welcoming of English speakers even if they are not explicitly for English speakers.
