to pre-emptively sum up the basic content of this post; i'm 42, eight years experience in korea and taiwan in hagwons/bushibans; private english cram schools. male, caucasian, canadian. can i get a job teaching kids 8-13 in private english cram school in japan, or do barbie and ken rule?
yeah, i've been in korea seven years, taiwan one. i was looking into china because just a switch of location would be a kick. but china, as i knew beforehand, is low pay. and the more i looked into it via dave's china discussion board, the more extraordinary/outlandish it looks. common sense seems to be prevailing. a person only has so much time to make and save. but i never, ever, considered japan.
because when i started teaching esl i was 35, which, from what i'd heard, is the top limit of 'ageist' japan. any notions in your noggins islanders? ahoy, yes you! |

I came to Japan when I was 43 to teach both adults and kids. You shouldn't have any problems imo. |
